Magnesium deficiency is wide spread with stress, drugs that we take, and our diets. A lack of magnesium for anyone isn't good, but for the chronically ill it can make us feel much worse. Muscle cramps, constipation, and depression are some of the main problems. I take magnesium citrate in capsule form daily, for me 1000mg. Currently I take Nexium, which can really deplete your magnesium stores so my dose is much higher than most could tolerate. The rule of thumb is to start out with a 200mg dose and increase it to bowel tolerance. If the stool becomes loose, cut back on the dose a bit. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer, so if your neck and shoulders are tight after surgery it will relieve some of that tightness. Or if you suffer from leg cramps, it's a must! Some people have trouble taking pills or capsules (I find capsules are much easier, and have less ingredients in them) so I have found an alternative. Magnesium oil. Magnesium oil is not an actual oil, but magnesium chloride in salt form that has been dissolved in distilled water. It feels kind of oily when it hits your skin, and a tingly feeling comes right after. Here is a great article on how to make your own: wellnessmama.com/5804/how-to-make-your-own-magnesium-oil/Test this out on your skin to see if you can tolerate it. I apply it after my shower, then rub in coconut oil right after. If my neck hurts, or I have muscle soreness, I spray right on those areas. Give it a try!

Epsom Salt baths will load your body up on Magnesium too.
A teaspoon of epsom salt dissolved in a warm glass of water is a natural way to get your bowels to move too.

The supplements don't work as fast, it's a slower release. So if you're not stopped up, stay away for the salts!

I just wish I could find the happy medium with the whole bowel thing but as long as I have POTS I don't think that is gonna happen.

Do you find that you have to consume more salt? When I was symptomatic, that seemed to help me...

I didn't use to use salt at all or I used the Lite salt. I have since been made to use the sea salt in all of my foods. My cardiologist made me. If I go getting an episode when I am out and about I get a bag of chips or pretzels for the immediate salt.

Funny how that works. Feel faint or dizzy headed, eat salt!

I had a rheumatologist tell me in the most condescending way when I told her years ago (I had no idea at this time I even had an issue) that I was feeling really bad so ate salt and felt better, "now you KNOW it doesn't work that fast, right??!?!?" She was a bitch and I never went back to her.

My surgeons nurse has POTS but hers is under control she don't use meds. She wouldn't tell me her secret.
Some people are just idiots that are in the medical field just because something don't make sense to them we are the crazy ones.
