Anyone else have this issue? It drives me insane. I don't think I will ever sleep normal again

I have had issues if I fall asleep on my back. I'll wake myself up gasping for air. I trained my self to only sleep on my sides ans haven't had any further issues.
Must be tough to deal with.

It's a complete pain in the ass to deal with. That thing attached to my head drives me insane, if it blows just right on something, it sounds like I'm in a hurricane and it wakes me up. I tried the full face mask and could only use it for 5 minutes. I couldn't keep a seal with it and then it LOOKED like I was in the hurricane with my hair blowing all over the place. Then we see if bipap is better for me and my doc thinks Bipap is kicking me into central apnea, so off to the third sleep study next month. grr

I was diagnosed with central apnea when I was 11 (before they had any idea about my Chiari), but it's gone away as I've gotten older. I'm extremely lucky. The CPAP was the worst... it made me choke so I ripped it off in my sleep every night.

I have sleep apnea too! I hate my CPAP mask. I think since my shunt surgery I actually sleep better without it. I dream now and never did before cause I never hit REM sleep.

That's great Donna!
That's fascinating that your shunt surgery maybe had something to do with it.

omg, Donna. I can't imagine life without dreams! I have to have a THIRD sleep study done next month because CPAP doesn't seem to be working, yet when I did the BIPAP trial, it was even worse. My doc thinks the BIPAP was knocking me into central episodes.
Tree - it went away? How cool is that! I know if I could get my weight back down, mine would get better, but, it's the viscious cycle - moving is what gets the energy going, yet, there is no energy to move in the first place...

When my sleep study was done I have 52 hypoepneas and hour, I stop breathing 10 times and when my body tries to get into REM I stop breathing 30 times.

Wow. I can't remember how many times I stopped breathing but it was a lot. I have my papers here someplace, but I am too lazy to get up and get them just now. haha

Hypoepnea is shallow breathing to the point you don't get enough oxygen, my O2 levels drop to around 82% in my sleep. Every surgery I have had they have put me on oxygen at the rate of 3 to push it into me during the after surgery time in the hospital.

Ooh. now that you mention it, my O2s were in the 60% range.

Hence how most chiarians die in their sleep.

I wouldn't even dream of NOT using my CPAP on a night I have been drinking, especially if I have drank a lot.
